Released in 2007, Bhavana by Bronwin is an amazing chanting CD for your Yoga practice. Bronwin has a sultry voice that lends itself well to devotional chanting, and many of the other reviews of the album state what a calming effect this music has on them. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Sanskrit devotional chants but also enjoys more pop/folk melodies. Krishna Das – Pilgrim Heart

Pilgrim Heart was my first chanting cd I received from my wife as a birthday present. It sat on the shelf for almost a year before I really began listening to it. But once I got into it, I couldn’t stop listening. It has a unique quality from his newer albums. It may be because it was my first that I’m so partial to it, but it is by far my favorite Krishna Das album. Many of the chants are Indian chants in a classic call and response. Krishna Das sings from the heart, and if you enjoy chanting music, you should definitely pick this one up. Purchase Krishna Das – Pilgrim Heart.

Rasa – Devotion

The music of Rasa is a must have for any Yoga teacher and/or student. Rasa’s album, Devotion, is an enchanting musical exploration of Indian devotional music with beautiful lyrics from Kim Waters set to the instrumental music of cellos, sarangi (Indian violin), sitara (small sitar), and the Swedish keyed fiddle. The result is an amazing flow of sound that flows like pure water, giving you a sensual and rythmic pulse to perform Yoga to. I love the non-traditional, world-fusion style of the Indian devotional music in this album. The chants do not follow your typical call and response format, but rather, contain a fluid, melodious nature that gives them the feeling of a vocal performance. Only if you listen very closely can you tell that some of these songs are actually traditional chants. Loose yourself in the rasa of this great album. Definitely worth picking up!
